"Tina - The Tina Turner Musical" at the Orpheum Theatre #ReviewRoundup

🎤 Broadway tour of the new musical "Tina - The Tina Turner Musical" at the Orpheum Theatre REVIEW ROUNDUP! Playing through 3/12, so get your tickets with Hennepin Theatre Trust before the cast rock 'n rolls away: https://bit.ly/TinaTickets

Here's what the #TCTheater Bloggers had to say:
"The end of the show turns into a full-blown Tina Turner concert, including a couple of post-curtain call numbers, and it's the biggest thrill of the night."

"I had a great time at Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, it brought me back to my teenage years when songs like 'Private Dancer' and 'What’s Love Got to do With It?' were featured."

"The role of Tina requires a powerhouse to bring to life. The outfits, the hair, the dancing, and of course, the singing – it seems impossible to pack all of that into one human. This production does Tina justice."

Life in Revue also saw the show! Check out the review now: https://lifeinrevue.blogspot.com/.../tina-tina-turner...

TCTB Review Roundup: Broadway tour of HELLO, DOLLY! at the Orpheum Theatre

Several of our bloggers attending opening night of the National Tour of Hello, Dolly on Broadway  and were universally enthralled by this gorgeous revival of a musical theater classic, starring the legendary Betty Buckley. Read on for more, and visit the link below for more info and tickets (through April 28).

"After the first few minutes of this production, I had been so entranced that I completely forgot about thinking 'critically.'"
Cherry and Spoonhttp://bit.ly/cs_dolly
"The luscious old-fashioned (in a good way) show fairly leaps off the stage in an explosion of music, romance, dance, color, and the hopeful life of springtime."
Play off the Pagehttp://bit.ly/2Uqr9MH
"Betty Buckley gives us full on Broadway stardom and charm. I’m still smiling from the experience. She put heart and style into the character of Dolly."
Compendium - Minneapolishttp://bit.ly/2PjATaL
"Dolly Levi is still meddling in her matchmaking ways, holding people hostage and steering them towards her preferred endings; there are still sexist old white dudes and a host of highly gendered lyrics. But it's all delivered here with a wink and a smile, and the sheer joy this cast brings to their parts got the audience deeply engaged from the very beginning."
Brett Talkhttps://bit.ly/2GvEdg1
"The choreography, which pays tribute to the original work of director and choreographer Gower Champion, is honestly one of my favorite things about the show. The stamina and athleticism of the performers is unmatched to a large majority of ensembles I’ve seen before."

TCTB Review Roundup: CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY Broadway Tour at the Orpheum Theatre

Check out our TCTB reviews of the tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Hennepin Theatre Trust (through 3/17) and get YOUR golden ticket. Or not ... It's a mixed bag of reviews!
Cherry and Spoon went with not very high expectations and was "pleasantly surprised at what is a charming and delightful musical." http://bit.ly/cs_charlie
Compendium - Minneapolis has mixed feelings about Roald Dahl's work for children and found that "while the overall effect was successful, it didn't have that magical, lush quality that I was looking for." https://bit.ly/2TGo4vW
Although Brett Talk pointed out a few highlights, "0verall, this adaptation was a miss when it could have been such a confectionery of sweetness and delight with it’s original story line."

TCTB Review Roundup: ON YOUR FEET! Broadway Tour at the Orpheum Theatre

Looking to escape this bitter cold? Go see ON YOUR FEET! The Musical and be transported to warm, colorful, infectiously rhythmic Miami for a few hours. Playing at Hennepin Theatre Trust's Opheum Theatre in downtown Minneapolis through Sunday only!
Cherry and Spoon:
http://bit.ly/cs_onyourfeet
"ON YOUR FEET! THE EMILIO AND GLORIA ESTEFAN BROADWAY MUSICAL tells the story of a real-life American Dream. Gloria and Emilio immigrated with their respective families from Cuba to Miami, where they met, married, and built a pop music empire."
Twin Cities Stageshttp://bit.ly/2sQB42F
"I couldn't finish my review of ON YOUR FEET! without mentioning the absolutely amazing choreography by Sergio Trujillo. It spanned different Latin styles, Cha cha, Salsa, and a sort of tap dancing that was fascinating to watch that I had never seen before. "
Compendium - Minneapolishttps://bit.ly/2MCrjyw
"It's a dramatic, engaging story about racism in the music industry, family conflict, a total love for music and art, the power of love over immense difficulty, and ultimately a testament to the rewards of hard work and strong faith in yourself and your family"

Waitress - TCTB Review Roundup

Waitress plays at the Orpheum Theatre (Minneapolis, Minnesota) only through November 26. Our bloggers (save one) really enjoyed it. Check out what they had to say below!
Cherry and Spoon "finds it to be a successful adaptation with a fantastic score, modern and interesting choreography, and this touring cast really beautifully brings it to life."
http://bit.ly/cs_waitress
Compendium - Minneapolis asks "what better than to enjoy this positive, aggressively normal story of women supporting each other and emerging from their damaging pasts?"
http://bit.ly/2A3y1ae
PhenoMNal Twin Cities: "At the finale, there was simply no way not to smile from ear to ear and soak in all the warm fuzzies."
http://bit.ly/2mWLE8m
Coffee Talk with Brett: "This production is literally wrapped up and baked in a beautiful pie and I highly recommend everyone see it."
http://bit.ly/2n1i4yL
Twin Cities Stages: " It is a show about pies, about love and relationships, and about being yourself and knowing when to say no to relationships."
http://bit.ly/2Bf2bYm
And finally, weighing in with an unpopular opinion is Minnesota Theater Love, who says: " Lots of people liked this show. I'm not one of them. I have some serious issues with this show, which I will enumerate in full, exhausting detail. So get comfortable."

"Now RENT is on the road again with the 20th anniversary tour, a production filled with as much life, heart, and energy as ever. And it's stopping in Minneapolis for just one week only. Whether it's your first, or 15th, or 100th time seeing it, RENT is a joyful, moving, inspirational experience." -
Cherry and Spoon

"People who have been Rent-heads for the past two decades gave an enthusiastic welcome to this Broadway touring troupe, cheering as though their best friends were performing. The energy was contagious." -

"Can you believe Tuesday is the first time I've ever seen Rent on stage? I know, I know. How is it possible that a young theater reviewer has somehow bypassed THE musical that ushered in our modern age of new works?" - Compendium - Minneapolis

"The Orpheum is a big theater but the energy coming off the stage at Tuesday night's performance easily filled the house. And the audience gave all that energy right back. I have never been to a show with that kind of energy and audience reaction (including when I saw Rent on Broadway). The rock concert vibe created by the talented cast and the audience seemed to elevate the show to a different level." - Twin Cities Stages

Cabaret Comes to Minneapolis - Orpheum Theater - TCTB Review Roundup

What are the take-aways from the Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of Cabaret? It still has some shock value and eyebrow raising scenes. The story grabs at your throat, at times, and stops you from breathing. The characters are flawed and complicated, endearing and tragic. The actors’ voices are powerful and filled with emotion. The dancers are amazing performers, shifting from bawdy dance numbers with cigars hanging out of their mouths to play French Horn, Violin, or any other instrument in the band, which is also on stage in an upper level. - Play off the Page
